The school of the future

Diaspora Action Senegal

Context

In Senegal, the state allocates a third of its national budget to the education system for its children. However, the country continues to face major challenges in providing access to modern and sustainable education. These challenges stem from poor budget management, where almost all of the
The allocated budget is used to finance the salaries of civil servants.

In Diourbel, one of the poorest regions of Senegal where more than half of the inhabitants live below the poverty line, problems related to primary education are very present, despite efforts made in recent years.

Khoulé is a village of 500 inhabitants located in the commune of Ndoulo, in the department of Diourbel. Its primary school, established in the 1980s, currently has five classrooms, two of which are not functional. Since its creation, the school has suffered from a lack of adequate infrastructure to accommodate all the children from the village and surrounding areas. The school has no latrines and remains a place where the safety of the children is not guaranteed due to the presence of dangerous animals.

Through this project, Diaspora Action Senegal aims to improve children's education in the village of Khoulé, in partnership with the Djourbel Education and Training Inspectorate. The project involves transforming this school into a "school of the future" by renovating the
school infrastructure and classrooms, and by installing more toilets
