Sustainable Cassava in Logoualé

Bougainvillea

Context

Traditionally in Côte d'Ivoire, women contribute to the food security of their families through food crops used for family nutrition and sometimes providing additional income by selling these products on local markets, but they have limited access to land and earn little income from their work.

The Federation of Active Women of Logoualé (FEFALO) brings together 141 agricultural cooperatives, representing 3,525 women in the Logoualé sub-prefecture of Côte d'Ivoire. Targeting women farmers directly to help them strengthen their economic role by enabling them to control the complete chain of cassava production, processing, and marketing, FEFALO provides each of its member associations with plots of land for growing cassava and food crops.

The Breton association Le Bougainvillier has been running projects in the commune of Logoualé for around twenty years, particularly in the areas of education and health. It is within this framework that FEFALO and the Le Bougainvillier association have joined forces to carry out a cassava processing project for the benefit of FEFALO's member associations.

Project objectives

Promote the complete cassava sector (production, processing and marketing) in a sustainable and inclusive manner, structured around the economic empowerment of women and the promotion of local products

Support the training of women farmers, members of the Logoualé Federation of Active Women, as part of their cassava production, processing and marketing project in order to create an alternative source to the sale of cash crops

Develop agricultural professions and initiate a process of economic empowerment of women and food security at local and national level
