In Togo, the Savanes region has a Sudanese climate, characterized by a short rainy season from June to September and a long dry season from October to May. In recent years, the consequences of climate change have intensified, particularly with the late arrival of rains, irregular rainfall, and pockets of drought that threaten food security.
In this region lies the isolated village of Namongou, surrounded by rivers and lowlands, about ten kilometers from the city of Dapaong. Most of the farmers belong to a cooperative that primarily produces tomatoes, onions, green chilies, cassava, and peppers. However, the women farmers regularly face water shortages, forcing them to dig makeshift wells that dry up after only a few days of use.
The project by the Avenir des Jeunes Filles de Dapaong association aims to strengthen food and nutritional security for households by supporting two groups of 32 women not only in producing market garden produce using agroecological techniques, but also in promoting a diverse and balanced diet within the community. To this end, the project will involve installing a solar pump and an irrigation system to create a 20,000 m² market garden.
Through its Microprojects division, the NGO La Guilde, in partnership with the French Development Agency, supports the implementation of microprojects for sustainable development internationally.
