Training sites for young people in the construction of ecological social housing using Nubian vaults

Association for the Sociocultural Development of Agnam Lidoubé (ADSCAL)

Context

The village of Agnam Lidoubé is located in the Sahelian zone, near Matam, in the Senegal River valley in northeastern Senegal.

In the area, the village economy is essentially agricultural, and the inhabitants are very poor. Young people leave school very early, often due to a lack of resources or local training opportunities. The poorest families are poorly housed and live in dwellings unsuitable for extreme climatic conditions., the climate being very hot in the Sahel region.

However, local resources could improve living conditions, particularly with earth and plant fibers for construction. Acquiring skills in raw earth construction techniques contributes to the fight against unemployment and exodus in strengthening the autonomy of the community.

The project presented follows from a first phase of training construction sites having taken place in 2023. This first project made it possible to train 12 young people in Nubian vault construction, and to build 11 houses intended for impoverished families.

Strengthening the skills of unemployed youth in Agnam-Lidoubé in ecological earthen construction techniques with Nubian vaults,

Build 14 new eco-friendly social housing units for low-income families
