Mutual solidarity in Tambacounda: a community art school

Free Label Association

Context

Tambacounda is considered the "great crossroads" of Senegal. Its geographical location constitutes a strategic meeting point between peoples and cultures.

However, the city's youth lack stable artistic and cultural structures and educational opportunities.

Since its creation in 2008, Free label has been implementing large-scale national and international cultural and tourist events on an ad hoc basis through training courses, exhibitions, residencies for foreign artists, festivals, film productions, support for young talents…

The Free label association is thus working to decentralize professional training in arts and culture, notably through the creation of Tamba art school, which is the first art training center outside of Dakar.

Project objectives

To provide a space for the young people of Tambacounda where they can develop their creativity and art, meet each other, and show solidarity.

Create an art school nearby with diverse training programs: cultural administration, production, directing, art direction, artist, music, graphic design, stage management…

Supporting and integrating young people from Tambacounda into the workforce

Activities

Construction of the Tamba art school with several rooms that can accommodate workshops, a recording studio, and administrative offices.
