Although considerable efforts are being made to improve access to education, Senegal remains far from achieving its stated and hoped-for goals. Located in Sub-Saharan Africa, a region where education plays a vital role in the economic and social development of countries, the performance of the Senegalese education system remains below expectations. Despite significant investments made by the Senegalese government and its financial partners (Package Program 2018/2030), the Baccalaureate pass rate remains only 35.91% and the Brevet de Fin d'Études pass rate is 52.11%. These figures clearly demonstrate the inefficiencies facing the current Senegalese education system.
The illiteracy rate in Senegal remains very high (51.11 per 100,000 students), and the disparities between the most developed and most remote regions continue to widen, particularly in the south of the country. In Dakar, in 2019, the preschool enrollment rate was 31.61 per 100,000 students, while it was only 12.41 per 100,000 students in the Fatick region. For the past 20 years, Voiles Sans Frontières has been working in Senegal, particularly in the area of education, to improve the learning conditions for students of all ages.
The primary objective of this project is to build a Community Early Learning Centre (CEC) with quality facilities in the village of Siwo, the equivalent of kindergarten in France, in order to provide access to quality education in structures adapted to the needs of children.
