LPeru prioritizes mining as part of its public policies for rural development, despite the numerous negative externalities it creates, primarily affecting the environment and, in particular, biodiversity. Vital natural resources such as water, vegetation cover, and soil are threatened by climate change, leading to soil loss and the displacement of fertile land into rivers and eventually the ocean. Furthermore, the population's economic situation is critical, leading to a sense of resignation. the population that lack of initiatives to identify, plan and implement alternatives that allow for their own development.
The Ecocuenca project is a pilot led by the Peruvian associations CADEP and CEDEP AYLLU, in partnership with the French association Association Internationale de Mobilisation pour l'Egalité (AIME). He seeks to implement New sustainable local development strategies in the Pomacanchi and Cachora watersheds in the Andes, by creating a demonstrative effect that will subsequently have an impact on local public policies.
The first phase of the project has been implemented, and consisted of creating the conditions for change through community self-assessments, a review and updating of management tools, and support for the municipal elections. second phase is proposed within the framework of this project, in order to to facilitate initiatives for change.
