Since its independence in 1956, Tunisia has consistently pursued a policy of free, compulsory, and open education for all, from ages 6 to 16. The national primary school enrollment rate is 971 per 100,000 students, and is equally high in urban and rural areas.
However, small schools located in rural or remote areas lack sports and extracurricular facilities. These facilities are also nonexistent outside of school. As a result, students are deprived of cultural enrichment and exposure to the world, suffering daily from a lack of adequate sanitation and proper equipment.
The Education & Digital project targets a primary school located in a rural and hard-to-reach area: Dhafria School, located in southern Tunisia, in Tozeur (on the Algerian-Tunisian border).
Through its Microprojects division, the NGO La Guilde, in partnership with the French Development Agency, supports the implementation of microprojects for sustainable development internationally.
