The village of Toubab Dialaw is located on the coast south of Dakar. This region has traditionally relied on fishing, but fish stocks are dwindling. Agriculture is not widely practiced, especially since many residents sell their fields to investors in the tourism industry. However, an agroecological network is developing, which has allowed various agricultural operations to establish themselves.
The Djarama Dialaw site, the second location of the Djarama association in the village of Toubab Dialaw, allows for the development of projects focused on sustainable agriculture and food in the area. Starting in 2021, young women farmers from the village established themselves there, growing market garden produce and processing farm products. They received support from the Djarama association and its partners, including training, access to land, water, tools, seeds, and the infrastructure necessary for the development of their business, which they organize themselves.
To support the women farmers in the area, Djarama has also launched the construction of a community processing workshop, the building's construction and fitting out of which the association hopes to finalize. A space dedicated to processing local products is thus planned.
added to enable female farmers to add value to their products and combat waste during periods of large harvests.
