Support for the professional development of forcibly displaced families from Artsakh

“House of Hope charity center” foundation

Context

Between 2022 and 2023, approximately 120,000 residents of Artsakh lost their homes and livelihoods, forcing them to resettle throughout Armenia, including in Yerevan. This mass displacement has created an urgent socio-economic crisis for these families, many of whom are struggling to integrate into their new communities and find stable employment.

Since 2022, the House of Hope Charity Center has rapidly adapted to assist these forcibly displaced people, providing emergency food aid through its field kitchen and hot meal services in Yerevan. The foundation also conducts activities to support children's well-being and provides psychological support. Despite the significant initial assistance provided by state and non-state actors, aid is now diminishing, creating a gap in support for social integration and professional development.

This project addresses these challenges by offering vocational training to displaced adults, focusing on culinary skills and employment opportunities in the foundation's charitable kitchen. This initiative aims to promote economic independence and help beneficiaries build sustainable livelihoods in their new environment.

Project objectives

  •  Improving the socio-economic conditions of forcibly displaced Artsakh residents through professional culinary training.
  • Supporting social integration and entry into the labor market by developing practical cooking skills, including emergency field cooking operations.
  • To offer employment opportunities within the framework of the charity cooking project to the highest-performing participants.

Activities

  • Selection and recruitment of 10 beneficiaries in two phases, giving priority to vulnerable women and mothers from displaced families.
  • Development and approval of a training program covering hygiene, food preparation, menu design and emergency meal preparation with field kitchen equipment.
  • Purchase of kitchen equipment, supplies and teaching materials.
  • Organization of practical training and masterclasses by expert chefs over a period of 5 months, at a rate of three days per week.
  • Evaluation of participants' skills, certification upon completion of training, and job offers for the best students.
Regular reporting and monitoring to track progress and results.

Direct beneficiaries

50 forcibly displaced people aged 24 to 45, particularly socially vulnerable women and mothers from large families who lost their husbands in the conflict.
