An introduction to agroecology for the women of Shoul

In Morocco, intensive, export-oriented agriculture has led to the overexploitation of water and groundwater, exacerbated by climate change. While agroecology is recognized as a path to development, public policies continue to favor industrial monoculture, leaving little support for farmers committed to this transition—a situation that particularly affects rural women, who are still largely excluded from recent advances in women's rights.

It is in this context that the Ferme Bio Shoul cooperative, located in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region and long supported by the municipality and the State, has developed a support axis for small farmers (training, advice, introduction to agroecology).

Since 2021, the Coup de Soleil AuRA association has been carrying out agroecology projects in Morocco and has collaborated with the cooperative since 2024. The Ferme Bio Shoul cooperative co-developed training programs with the association, building on an existing relationship of trust with the project team. This collaboration gave rise to the current project, initiated at the request of the women of the cooperative who wished to be more involved in its operation and development.
