In Guinea, access to education remains very unequal between urban and rural areas: in rural areas, many villages do not have schools, and children have to travel several kilometers to attend school. This is the case in Kombo, a village of approximately 600 inhabitants located in the Guiafari massif, in the Kindia prefecture. It includes 150 school-aged children, and none of them are currently enrolled in school. Lacking a school, the adults have never been able to learn French, the official language, which puts them at a disadvantage in their administrative procedures and when dealing with mining companies interested in the region. After supporting the neighboring village of Tombo for 13 years until it achieved self-sufficiency (health post, school, wells), the Pal'abre 05 association has requested its Guinean partner Performance Africa to identify a new priority village. His choice fell on Kombo, where the inhabitants, at the initiative of their youth leader, already had a school project underway. They donated the land and committed to participating in the construction. For their part, the prefectural authorities pledged to assign teachers paid by the state.
