Vocational training sessions for school dropouts

Nio Far Association

Context

The commune of Diembering, near Cap Skirring in Casamance, is an isolated area with a high population density where the median age is 19 years.

The department's first and only vocational training center (CFP) is located in Oussouye, 30 km from the town. It offers seven types of training, ranging from catering and sewing to hairdressing. These are long-term programs, lasting a minimum of two to three years, and are paid monthly.

The other training facilities are located in Ziguinchor, 70 km from the project area, and are very expensive there (from 100,000F to 800,000F) plus the difficulties of accommodation and/or transport.

Nio Far positions itself as the only training structure in the department supported by a state body, the Delegation of the Ministry of Vocational Training, and accessible free of charge, and also offering accommodation.
