Introduction of hydroponic fodder production in the Noyemberyan community

"Aren Mehrabyan" Charitable Foundation

Context

Noyemberyan is a rural community located in the Tavush region of northeastern Armenia. It is one of the poorest regions in the country, with a high unemployment rate. Most residents make their living from agriculture and livestock breeding.

Following the September 2023 conflict, more than 150 families from Artsakh settled in Noyemberyan. Many of them lost everything and are now struggling to find work. At the same time, access to agricultural land has become limited due to security concerns, and there is a significant shortage of green fodder for animals.

To address this situation, the Aren Mehrabyan Charitable Foundation is launching a new project with the support of the local municipality. This project introduces hydroponic farming, a modern and environmentally friendly method that allows fodder to be grown without land, using much less water and space. It will help refugee women earn an income and improve the supply of animal feed in the region.

Project objectives

  • Facilitate the integration of Artsakh refugees into Armenian society.
  • Support income-generating agricultural activities for displaced women.
  • Addressing local fodder shortages through cost-effective green production.
  • Promote sustainable and innovative agricultural methods.

Activities

  • Organize four training seminars on hydroponic fodder production, led by a biophysics expert.
  • Purchase and install the AEON hydroponic system (production cabinet + control unit)
  • Launch the daily production of 100 kg of fodder by the trained beneficiaries
  • Provide technical advice and regular monitoring throughout the project
  • Raising awareness among the local community about modern agricultural techniques

Direct beneficiaries

30 people from 5 refugee families currently living in Noyemberyan, with priority given to households headed by single women.
