Theatre of the Oppressed as a Lever for Feminist Cooperation in the Caribbean

Konbit

Since its creation in 2008, the Konbit association has been working at the heart of Caribbean societies, developing innovative socio-cultural projects to address the region's specific challenges. Its expertise revolves around Theatre of the Oppressed, a tool it uses to tackle crucial issues such as gender equality, public health, vocational training, and parenting support. In Martinique, it strives to provide tailored solutions to local needs, always prioritizing innovative and inclusive approaches. Its mission remains constant: to foster both individual and collective well-being within the community. To achieve this, it designs and implements a variety of educational, cultural, and social projects, all geared towards enriching and developing society.

Context

X=Y Theater

Founded in Martinique in 2008, the Konbit association stems from the observation of the need for shared methods to combat gender-based and sexual violence at the regional level. The X=Y Theater project proposes to build a common approach between Martinique and Saint Lucia, using Theatre of the Oppressed as a lever for cooperation and social transformation. By pooling approaches, it aims to lay the foundations for a future regional network focused on the use of this artistic practice to address gender issues.
