Youth and the environment: creating educational bridges between Guadeloupe and Dominica

ACP Environment

The ACP Environnement association, founded in June 2006 in Guadeloupe, has as its primary objective the promotion of sustainable development projects and the preservation of the environment and biodiversity in Guadeloupe and the Caribbean. Composed of Caribbean administrators and volunteers from the economic, institutional, and cultural sectors, ACP Environnement is committed to implementing concrete actions aimed at supporting and implementing innovative initiatives in environmental preservation and the promotion of sustainable development projects. ACP Environnement focuses on four priority areas: (1) Promoting innovative technical solutions for the collection and processing of sargassum seaweed; (2) Supporting reforestation and agroforestry initiatives in the Caribbean; (3) Supporting the development of green mobility in Guadeloupe; (4) Raising awareness and providing education on the environment and biodiversity preservation.

Context

Karibiodiv DOMINICA

As Caribbean islands face rapid ecosystem degradation and traditional knowledge is disappearing, younger generations still lack awareness. Since 2006, ACP Environnement has been working to protect island biodiversity. The Karibiodiv Dominica project aims to co-develop a Caribbean biodiversity education program with Dominican stakeholders, based on practical workshops, the co-creation of educational tools, and networking among young people from Guadeloupe and Dominica, including Kalinago.

The project promotes participatory, intercultural and intergenerational environmental education based on the valuation of knowledge to contribute to the sustainable preservation of island biodiversity in the Caribbean while strengthening cooperation between Guadeloupe and Dominica.
