The Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico is a region where climate change is being observed in the short term, impacting traditional Mayan agriculture, which forms the basis of the food resilience of Indigenous peoples. Traditional Mayan societies are losing their territorial roots, particularly due to the increasing pressures of mass tourism on Indigenous lands, the local economy, and the peninsula's water resources. This observation is the impetus behind this project, which aims to strengthen the food security and climate resilience of the Mayan community of Yalcobá, in the northeast of the state of Yucatán.
With the support of La Guilde, the Arutam Association is launching a project to provide technical support to local Mayan agriculture, to revitalize a culture and traditional agroecological knowledge and to diversify the economy in order to ensure their long-term and sustainable food and economic security.
Through its Microprojects division, the NGO La Guilde, in partnership with the French Development Agency, supports the implementation of microprojects for sustainable development internationally.
