In Cameroon, the construction of drinking water distribution centers and networks has not kept pace with the exponential population growth. This is the case for schools in the Kribi district and the Londji primary and nursery school, which accommodate
nearly 600 students.
In 2005, the National Action Plan for Integrated Water Resources Management (PANGIRE) was launched, but the resources allocated to this program remain limited. Villages on the outskirts of Kribi's city center cannot benefit from the inadequate public water distribution system. Most villagers fetch water directly from the river, leading to health problems and water shortages during the dry season. This is also the case for students at the Londji school complex.
The association Autour de l'Eau and its local partner, GIC MADIBA M MBOA, have, since their creation, aimed to provide access to drinking water for disadvantaged populations in Kribi, Cameroon, and especially for schoolchildren. The Londji school project is part of a long-term intervention approach. In this way, each project is enriched by the lessons learned from previous experiences.
Beyond a technical and health response, the aim is more broadly and sustainably to significantly reduce the recurrence of waterborne diseases by facilitating access to drinking water and sanitation and by conducting hygiene education in parallel, linking it to health.
Through its Microprojects division, the NGO La Guilde, in partnership with the French Development Agency, supports the implementation of microprojects for sustainable development internationally.
