LAUNCH OF THE FAMILY BAKERY COMMUNITY RESTAURANT

NK SEEDS

Context

In 2019, after a year of searching for a suitable location and navigating the administrative process, the first free English class opened in the village of Nong Kwiaw, located in the Luang Prabangau province of Laos, finally providing students with quality access to intercultural learning. This initiative followed strong demand from villagers, some of whom were already offering free English lessons in their homes. Today, thanks to various donations collected by the NK Seeds association, six classes and over 200 students have access to free English lessons taught by two teachers.

As student demand for English courses has been steadily increasing since 2019, operating costs and the number of teachers are consequently becoming increasingly higher.

The NK Seeds association, which wishes to extend its program on a larger scale within the village, therefore finds itself in the need to diversify its activities in order to generate new sources of income to ensure and welcome new students.

Thus, the present project, carried out by the NK Seeds association, aims to create and equip a restaurant with local production in Luang Prabang, a tourist city and extremely busy, which would also serve as a meeting space promoting intercultural mixing.

This place would, thanks to the revenue generated, make it possible to increase the number of English classes in the commune of Nong Kwiaw and also to cover all the costs incurred.

Project objectives

  • To guarantee quality education for pupils and students in the commune of Nong Kwiaw.
  • Generate revenue through the restaurant to make the activities of the NK SEEDS association sustainable.
  • Expand the number of students who can join the free English school in Nong Kwiaw, which opened in 2019.

Activities

  • Work and arrangement of purchased furniture.
  • Purchase of restaurant furniture (kitchen, storage, dining rooms, etc.)
  • Creation of a meeting space promoting intercultural diversity.
  • Organization of themed events (reading workshops, conferences, etc.)

Direct beneficiaries

  • 4 Laotian women employed at the restaurant.
