SCHOOL FOR ALL

The Loustics under the Baobab

Context

In Senegal, a population explosion has created difficulties in building a suitable school system. Only 70% of children are enrolled in primary school and only 16% are enrolled in preschool in a country where the average age is 19 years.

Since 2012, the State has adopted a large-scale policy called "A School For All" concerning national education, which establishes the principle that "Education plays a vital role in the development of a country." In its New General Policy Letter for the Education and Training sector for the period 2012-2025, the Senegalese government classifies the development of early childhood in the list of national priorities.

Located in an area where the illiteracy rate exceeds 75%, the local association "L'Enfant D'abord" is closely involved in the education of children in the village of Niague Peulh. In 2018, it created its kindergarten, then managed to build 2 classrooms for elementary school students.

This new project addresses a strong demand for access to education in a complex that lacks capacity and staff. The main objective is to expand the school to allow children to complete a full elementary education and to establish a pathway to vocational training.
